Garasi Seni Benawa (GSB) is a non-profit organization, established and directed by Rahayu Supanggah. GSB is open to all members of the public and holds a variety of activities, ranging from workshops to rehearsals, performances, and art education, specializing particularly in music, dance, puppetry, and theater based on the arts and culture of Java, and Indonesia in general, with no restrictions in field, genre, and place of origin. All artists and cultural experts or observers are welcome to participate in these activities, including artists from various backgrounds and countries throughout the world. Membership of this organization is open to anyone who wishes to join, regardless of age, background, culture, or level of skill. It is not binding in any way and there are no membership fees.

Garasi Seni Benawa has been involved in numerous collaborations with various artists from different artistic and cultural backgrounds from a number of different countries throughout the world, and has produced numerous works that have been performed in various different venues across the globe. The works performed by GSB to date include:

Lear, directed by Ong Keng Sen from Singapore, a collaboration of artists from 8 countries – Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Japan, and Australia – which was performed in Japan, Germany, Australia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Lear Dreaming, directed by Ong Keng Sen from Singapore, a collaboration of artists from Singapore, Japan, China, Indonesia, and Korea, which was performed in Singapore and France.

Opera Jawa, a musical film by Garin Nugroho using music based on the Javanese gamelan. This film won the category of best film at the Singapore International Film Festival. The music for the film was composed and arranged by Rahayu Supanggah and won an award for best music at the Asia Film Awards in Hong Kong, the Three Continents Festival (SACEM) in Nantes, France, and the Indonesian Film Festival in Jakarta.
