2019 World Heritage Day Celebration is centered on the museum of early man in Ngebung Cluster for 2 days, May 3-4 2019. This World Heritage Day Celebration is the result of coordination between Directorate of Heritage and Culture Diplomacy (Ministry of Education and Culture), Community of Site and Culture Preservation, and also Pokdarwis Wonderful Sangiran. In that chance, performed various local arts, one of them is Gejog Lesung.
Gejog Lesung art is well known in Sangiran community which is mostly resident are farmer. Sangiran community is still holding fast that tradition by time to time which is inherited from their ancestors. The aim of this group is “to preserve a remains culture from ancestor” said Jumadi, a member of Gejog Lesung group and also lives in Sangiran site. One of those traditions is still preserved by making art community. The example of art community is Gejog Lesung, the aims is to preserve remains from ancestor or to actualize self. Beside to actualize self, this community is also preserve Gejog Lesung arts by reason “We like this art, and what we do is based on our joy”, said Jumadi.
There are various art communities in Sangiran. They are making a group and actualize self through practice continuously and then perform in a society event or various invitations out of site. The arts are movement, song, and also theater which are present simple story of their daily life.
Those simple stories are local wisdom raised in Gejog Lesung art that they performed. A lot of themes bring on the show, “About theme, it based on the event, we just follow it”, said Sutiyah, a member of Gejog Lesung group in Sangiran.
Sangiran site is not only has special story of early man life in the past but also keep a local wisdom of community. Through art, the community is growing to maintain their tradition that exists on Sangiran site. (Wiwit Hermanto)
