Sangiran Fauna in the Last 2,4 Million Years (Molusk/ Mollusca)

In addition to vertebrae, Sangiran marine environment is also indicated by sea mollusks fossils, from gastropod (snails and slugs) and bivalve (clams). Belong to group of soft-bodied invertebrate, so the fossils found, like in Sangiran is in the form of shell. The shell is eco-skeleton, made of chitin and calcium, so that the shell is hard to cover from environmental changes and length of time. Groups of sea mollusk found in Sangiran are Conus sp., Cryptospira., Natica vitellus sp., Babylonia pankaensis, Hemifusus ternatatus, Tutirela terebra and Pleuroplaca trapezium. Sea shell fossil are from Cardita sp., and giant clam Tridagna Gigas, All groups of mollusks are still found and spreading today along the sea. Sangiran mollusks mostly live in neritic zone, oceanic zone, and seashore. They live in sand, or attach themselves in surface of rocks or ridges.
