Sangiran Fauna in the Last 2,4 Million Years (Labi – labi/ soft-shelled freshwater turtle/ Trionyx sp.)

Labi – labi (soft shell/Trionyx sp.) is characterized by hard shell which is covered by hard skin, so often called as soft-shelled turtle. This animal lives in freshwater, swamp and lake. The most wanted habitat is slow currents with sandy and muddy stream, river, or swamp bed, and also brackish water. Most Labi-labi are very shy and appreciate a hiding place underwater.

Labi – labi is carnivore, with shrimps, fish, and shells as the main prey. Labi – labi are ovipar. In Sangiran, the fossil usually found are carapaces. Other fossil bone of this animal has never been found. (Pipit Puji Lestari, Marlia Yulianti Rosyidah, Febri Wijanarko, Iwan SB) Plese click here
