at the Beginning

Sangiran site covers two districts, namely Sragen district (covering Kalijambe sub-district, Plupuh sub-district and Gemolong sub-district) and Karanganyar district (covering Gondangejo sub-district). Sangiran site has been widely known to foreign and national researchers since it was first introduced by Von Koenigswald as a long-time researcher doing research and a painter namely Raden Saleh. They introduced the Sangiran site according to their respective capacities in the international world. At the beginning of his research in Sangiran, von koenigswald met Sangiran as a dry place where there were many fossils scattered in various directions. People still don’t know what fossils mean, people still know fossils as balung buto. Fossils as scientifically by koenigswald are called fossils which can break the mystery of “Missing Link”.

Armed with van Es’ research which succeeded in compiling the Sangiran Geological map, Koenigswald began his research in Sangiran. Armed with this geological map, koenigswald began his research to answer the complicated problem of the world of science at the time. (Wiwit Hermanto) translated by: Mutiara Sholikah
