There is something new in the Sangiran Early Man Museum Krikilan cluster: video mapping touch screen technology, which exists in display room 1, tells about the soil formations in Sangiran. This technology is an updated version from the previous information, adding an interesting modern technology.
The video mapping touch screen technology is an advantage of this display because the visitors can get deeper information. Besides that, the information about soil formations is more attractive and easier to access.
The information in the soil formations, which tell about the changes in the environment at the Sangiran site since 2.4 million years ago, was told in a simple way using technology. The formations have a lot of meaning in sedimentation and chronological time, and they also tell about what happened in the past. The formations are told to have started from the Kalibeng Formation, Pucangan Formation, Grenzbank Formation, Kabuh Formation, and Notopuro Formation.
The story of 2,4 million years ago was told about the changes in the Sangiran site when it was still a deep sea. The evidence is found in the form of marine life, and the findings are various sea animals, such as shells and sharks as predators.
Pucangan formation is when Sangiran has changed to swamp, and also the existence of Homo erectus at that time. Swamps and mangroves dominate the Sangiran landscape, which was characterized by black clay sediment until 0.9 million years ago. The oldest Homo erectus is the first to come and live by the riverbank around swamps, together with rhinoceroses, elephants, tigers, crocodiles, and deer. They make tools from calsedon, such as small flakes with a diameter of 2-4 cm.
Grenzbank Formation is a third formation that, in the early days of Sangiran, changed to land that was composed of limestone and gravel.
The Kabuh formation is one of the formations that is quite wide and exposed in the Sangiran area. This formation is popular around the world because of the finding of a fragment of an early human fossil by the previous researchers.
The insertion of this technology is intended to make it easier for visitors to access the information. The purpose of the new technology is to improve the quality of services. (Wiwit Hermanto)
