Franz Weidenreich, a man who like botanical and Hiking Mountain. Alpen is one of his favorite mountain, was born in Edenkoben, Palatinate, Germany on June 7th 1873. Before it, Weidenreich study in 4 leading Universities in Germany, they are Munich, Kiel, Berlin, and Strassburg. Medical science is his favorite subject, until he got Medical Degree (MD) by dissertation about central nervous function in the mammalian cerebellum.
From 1899-1901, he take office as assistant until become special lecturer in Anatomy Department of Strassburg University. In 31 years old, Weidenreich promoted as Anatomy Professor in Strassburg University. In that year too, he got married with Mathilde Neuberger. Because of that, Weidenreich not only blessed with 3 children, but also the strength to appreciate history memory.
On 1914, he published 55 papers mostly about Hematology, study about blood organ and its constituent. After First World War that stopped his scientific activity, on 1921 he appointed become anatomy professor in Heidelberg University.
During 1921-1926, he wrote papers relating to miscroscopic, microscopic bone and tissue characters. Here, he put a basic about description method of skull and skeleton fossils. His first publication related to fossil of human skull on 1926.
2 years later, Weidenreich take office as professor of Anthropology in Frankfurt-an-Main University, until 1935. After that, he published a lot of papers, include an article consist of 125 pages talked about bone tissue.
His research trip to China actually came from America. On 1934, he becomes guest professor of Anatomy in Chicago University. The three Nazis came to power in Germany, he could never return to his birthplace. Then, Rockeffeller foundation takes him as guest professor in Peking Union Medical College, to substitute Davidson Black. During in China, Weidenreich continue the research of Peking man in Zhoukoudian and had time to work together with Pierre Teilhard de Chardian. Among of his findings is Skull X. He is a man who past 2 battles which made him unable to return to Germany under Nazi power, and Second World War which let of the research intensity in China under Japan occupation. On July 11st 1948, 2 years after von Koenigswald following him to USA, Weindenreich was sick. Not long ago, he died. Von Koenigswald very devastated by his death.
