The calm water environment and weak water current are the characteristic of swamp environment. The material was deposited by suspension way, to create clay sediment. Volcanic Mountain in Sangiran alternately were erupted resulted in volcanic dust and tucked between blackclay sediment of Upper Pucangan Formation.
Volcanic activism had continuously happen and resulted in sediment of volcanic materials, which then connecting the volcanic isle to be one mainland, and Sangiran area became brackish swamp environment and connected to the ocean far in eastern part.
